Ruby-topaz Hummingbird

Chrysolampis mosquitus
Conservation Status: Least Concern

The Ruby-topaz Hummingbird is one of the more extravagantly plumaged hummingbirds in T&T. Males in particular are routinely sought after for their bright coloration. Each year, Ruby-topaz Hummingbirds undergo a post-breeding dispersal to the South American mainland, and are rarely encountered from September to November. Outside of this, they are a fairly common sight in low-lying areas on both islands.
